A Couple of Sneak Peeks

After seeing Meghan’s really cool soap sneak peeks, I’ve been inspired to show you some of my own! Today was a busy day, because in addition to last minute school shopping (what do you mean you can’t find your rulers from last year and none of your jeans fit??), I actually made some soap!

First up was the Cranberry Yuzu full-sized batch. I knew there was absolutely no way I could do a faux funnel pour in my big mold, so I decided to use the bubblegum pink mica to color the base and swirl in the other three colors. Here is a sneak peek of that soap in the mold and spritzed with rubbing alcohol (thank you for that reminder, Emily!):

Did you notice some white soap swirled in there too? Oh, well that was left over from another project! I have this vision for a really cool Cherry Blossom soap, but it requires making white soap in 1/2″ PVC pipes. Oh yes, I’m crazy!

Hubby and I put our heads together on this one. He came up with a really cool way to push the soap out of the pipes with a nice, even pressure. That’s what all those fittings are for. I came up with a recipe that should be nice and hard by tomorrow (using the measurements from Amanda’s blog and adding a little extra). I also insulated the pipes after pouring the soap, hoping that will force gel. And I’m pretty sure I’ll be putting them in the freezer before trying to push them out as well.

Can’t wait to find out if all of this will actually work!

  1. PVC pipe is what I make all my soap in – means I don’t do the pretty stuff, but the squared profile pipe makes a nice sized bar. It gels and sets fine – only sometimes when I do a days worth all at once the pipes in the middle of the bunch get a bit hot lol! Put it this way – no need to insulate!

  2. Ohhhhhhh divine!!! Pretty beyond pretty.

Now those tube thingies?? Hmmmm look like light fittings LOL.. dying to see what this is all about!

  3. Thank you for all the great comments! I should be able to get the Cranberry Yuzu cut by tonight and get some photos posted. I’m really anxious to get the soap out of the pipes, but patience is probably needed with that project! I will definitely keep you updated!
