On the Curing Rack: Melon Supreme

Check out how I made the Melon Supreme soap in yesterday’s post here. It is made with juice and pulp from fresh cantaloupe and watermelon! Scented with a sweet and yummy blend of cantaloupe and watermelon fragrances, and colored with orange and pink micas.

Here are some photos of the cut soap:

The colors turned out pretty close to the color of the real melons! I was expecting the sugars in the melons to cause the soap to set up faster, but that really wasn’t the case. The effect of the sugars is obvious after cutting, however. Definitely overheated in the middle:

Crackled look in the center of the soap is an obvious giveaway that the soap overheated in the mold.

Although this is just a cosmetic issue, I’m still glad I only made a small batch. If I ever want to try this again, I’ll know that I need to keep it cooler! The good news is that the sugar will also create some super explosive lather!

  1. Beautiful soap, Amy! Love the pink swirls. What a neat idea to use fresh watermelon and cantaloupe – I’ll bet the soap smells like summer!

  2. @Jenny – Thanks! It most certainly does. Just wish the local cantaloupe and watermelons were ripe sooner! Summer will be nearly over by the time the soap is ready!

  3. I sure wish I could smell it through my computer. I bet it is lovely!! It’s a wonderful idea too. I love watermelon and I love soap. But I love my watermelon too much to share it with my soap.. lol 😉

  4. Too funny, Kimberly!! If you cut up your watermelon and put it in a container, just save the juices in the bottom when you are all finished with the watermelon. You would throw that out anyway, wouldn’t you?
