Here’s a fun soap that integrates several different techniques! I started out making some cute little gingerbread soaps to use as embeds in this silicone mold:<\/p>\n

I added just a tiny bit of cocoa powder to make them the perfect gingerbread color. I wanted them to contrast from the rest of the soap, so I made some goat’s milk soap with gingerbread fragrance added to the entire pot. From there, I divided out a portion to color a darker brown with more cocoa powder, and left the rest natural. I poured the “natural” colored soap in the bottom of the mold, then added the darker brown layer over the top. I marked the mold so I would be able to space out the gingerbread men evenly into each bar of soap. <\/p>\n

I had asked my soapmaking friends on Facebook for some creative ways I could make this soap more fun, and they had some great ideas! I decided to go with some white icing and a sprinkle of cinnamon powder on top. The beauty of having your masterbatch of soap oils<\/a> is that you can decide at the last minute to make up a tiny batch of white soap to use for icing. I didn’t even wait for the lye solution to cool down – just dumped it in the oils as soon as it was mixed up, and used a bottle with a yorker cap to squirt the white icing over the top of the soap. Then I sprinkled the cinnamon on top (you can see where it came out a little too fast when I first got started!)<\/p>\n

I was a little surprised at how dark and orange the bottom layer turned out! I’m sure it will turn more brown as it cures. Because they had to be hand-cut, the weight of these bars is going to vary.<\/p>\n
