Ever wondered if you can make soap with cantaloupe? How about watermelon? Yes, you can! One of the farmers at the market where I sell my soaps gave me a cantaloupe to do just that – and another farmer gave me a watermelon! I didn’t want to make a huge batch since I’d never attempted it before, so we had plenty of melon left over to eat – bonus!<\/p>\n

Holly Port of Lotion Bar Cafe mentioned that she had made soap with cantaloupe and watermelon last summer by using it in the lye water, so that’s what I did. I put the melon in the blender first, and tried to use as much juice as possible. I figured it would turn brown when the lye hit the juices, but it’s actually a nice rusty orange:<\/p>\n

I didn’t want the soap to turn pumpkin colored, so I planned to add some orange and pink micas – orange for cantaloupe, pink for watermelon – plus a little bit of titanium dioxide to lighten it up. I also added some cantaloupe and watermelon fragrance to the oils before adding the lye.<\/p>\n

I added the titanium dioxide to the entire pot, then divided out a little bit for the pink and added orange mica to the rest.<\/p>\n
