One of my regular customers, who also happens to be another vendor at the Olathe Farmer’s Market<\/a> requested that I make the Amber Fig soap again. I made it for the first time last year, but it was earlier in the year and I was experimenting with layers at the time. Anyway, it looked rather boring, and quite honestly the fragrance fits much better for Fall:<\/p>\n

Amber Fig Soap by Great Cakes Soapworks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Amber is definitely the most prominent part of the fragrance blend. Its sweetness is surrounded by a more green note with fig and a light musk in the background. A very sensual blend, for sure! I used the same swirling method as the Cranberry Yuzu soap<\/a>, only with different colors of course. The reddish-purple color is a mixture of grape POP and ruby red micas. I also used a bronze mica which came out very sparkly, as well as cocoa powder for the dark brown. The soap was at a much lighter trace this time when I poured the colors in with the base. I used just a little bit of titanium dioxide to lighten the base color, which has already turned a nice creamy yellow. It will very likely mellow into a light tan by the time the soap is finished curing. These thicker bars are taking a bit longer to cure, by the way! I will check this one after four weeks, but it may be up to five before it is ready to sell – especially since I used nearly the full water amount.<\/p>\n

The other soap I made yesterday was a small batch to test a Rainforest essential oil blend I purchased several months ago. I’m sure it will end up being a Soap of the Week! I used my favorite faux funnel pour<\/a> method with peacock blue and golden green micas, as well as hydrated chromium green and brown oxides. It reminds me of a retro fabric!<\/p>\n

Rainforest Soap by Great Cakes Soapworks<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The essential oil blend is amazing! Rather than truly rainforest, I would say it smells like balsam fir trees after the rain. There really is a refreshing quality to it that’s not just a plain forest. Very uplifting! <\/p>\n

I’m hoping this soap will be finished curing closer to the four-week mark, which would be September 29th. We shall see!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
