Coffee soaps are a category all their own! The coffee in the soap neutralizes odors on your hands. I’ve always known that they made good kitchen soaps, but I’ve had a customer report that it removes farm animal smells, and I’ve even had a photography teacher tell me that it removes the smell of the processing chemicals!<\/p>\n

Normally, I would make one scent at a time, but since I had requests for both Cinnamon Bun and Moroccan Spice, I made both! I had one new ingredient, and one new technique that I experimented with on these soaps. Since I was dividing the batch, I decided to go ahead and mix up a double batch of oils and lye and then separate the batches by weight after the oils and lye had been combined. I had never tried this before, but it worked great! I didn’t blend the soap at all, just stirred it with a spoon, and after pouring off half the soap, I set it aside while I finished up the other half.<\/p>\n

Starting with the Moroccan Spice soap, I added a new ingredient that I had never used before: Australian red reef clay. The powdered clay is actually a dark orange color which I figured would go well with the orange and spicy scent of the Moroccan Spice fragrance. I used it as the swirl color, and was a little surprised to see how truly red it became after it was put in the soap:<\/p>\n

Next, I made the Cinnamon Bun Coffee Soap. I wanted it to have a different swirl color than the Moroccan Spice, so I went with a nice creamy white – just like a nice, creamy vanilla frosting on a sticky Cinnamon Bun. The swirls really turned out beautifully:<\/p>\n
