Amber Fig Soap by Great Cakes Soapworks<\/figcaption><\/figure>Unlike the Pineapple Blossom soap<\/a>, the other soap that I made yesterday turned out almost exactly the way I had planned. I was finally able to soap some of the fragrance I had won from DayStar Soap & Candle Supply – the dupe of Bath & Body Works Chocolate Amber. I’m not sure why they call it that. There’s no chocolate in the fragrance description: “Romantic, yet daring blend of intriguing notes including pineapple, berries, honey, patchouli, and jasmine. Bottom notes of musk sweetened by precious amber and hints of soft vanilla.” I don’t really care that there isn’t any chocolate, it still smells yummy!! The fragrance does discolor soap to a dark brown, however, so I needed a plan to work around that. <\/p>\n

My idea was to make some lighter colored layers to contrast with the dark ones, but I needed another fragrance that would complement the Chocolate Amber and not discolor the soap. I came up with a Brown Sugar & Fig scent (thus the name Amber Fig) which only discolors to a medium tan. I used a lot less fragrance in the lighter colored layers so the Amber is still predominant. I also added some titanium dioxide to lighten them even more, as well as a few poppy seeds for interest and a bit of exfoliating action.<\/p>\n

Both the Chocolate Amber and Brown Sugar & Fig scents behaved perfectly, although not identically. The Chocolate Amber set up a bit quicker, which is why the layers aren’t perfectly straight, but you get the idea. The darker layers will continue to get darker as the soap cures so that the contrast will be even greater by the time these are ready to sell. I’m going to give them three weeks to work their magic. Check back around March 3rd to get your hands on these.<\/p>\n
