Valentines Soap Preview

I’m very excited to show you the fruit of my labor from yesterday. I had designed this soap in my mind, and it is extremely fulfilling to see it come to fruition. Last year I made a Sweet & Sassy soap that was meant to be pink and black, but all the pink coloring only showed up on the outside of the soap. It turned out like this:

Sweet & Sassy #1

This year, I decided the Sweet & Sassy fragrance would make the perfect Valentines soap. I had to combine several techniques to get this one to turn out the way I envisioned it.

First, I made a hot-processed soap in the microwave (somewhat dangerous!), colored it pink, added a bit of musk, and formed them into small soap balls. I nearly melted my plastic stick blender attachment in the hot soap, but managed to save it in time!

Then I made the main soap base, pulled out a few cups of soap for the top “frosting” and colored the rest black and scented it with the Sweet & Sassy fragrance: sweet, with a background of sandalwood, carmelized sugar and vanilla, yet top notes consist of lime, orange and pink pepper (whatever that is!) with jasmine and violet as well – totally delish!

Colored the frosting pink, left it unscented. Poured a layer of black soap in the bottom of the mold, added the soap balls to the rest of the black soap and poured it in the mold. Then, after the “frosting” was starting to get thick (as Tiggy suggested), I scooped it on top and texturized.

Then, after some inspiration from this soap, I sprinkled some iridescent glitter over the top. And here it is:
