Soapmaking Business Perk #1
As I pulled out my jar of “homemade Vicks” last night, I realized there are definitely some perks to being in the soapmaking business. When I was growing up, my mom always used Vicks Vaporub on our chests whenever we had a cold. She and my grandma developed allergies to the stuff when they added cedarwood to their formula. Then I realized that it made my skin turn red as well. My mom asked if I could make my own version of Vicks. I use jojoba seed oil, beeswax, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, essential oils of camphor, eucalyptus, menthol, and peppermint. Not only have I avoided using petroleum as the base, but I have also increased the overall strength of the original formula.
My mom loves the stuff, and now my aunt & uncle as well as my grandma, and my brother’s family all have jars of their own. My girls often make a fuss when I pull out the jar, much like I used to do with the Vaporub, but I have to say that it really does clear the chest and sinuses. Just a perk of being in the soapmaking business (and being related to the soapmaker!)
What perks do you have because of your business or because of who you know?

From what I understand, I am not able to sell it because it is technically a medicine, not a cosmetic. I will check into it more and let you know.
