Heidi - the lady you talked to was partly right. I could be pretty drying to the skin, but it would lather very well!! I use a portion of coconut oil in all my soaps for that very reason - it gives the soap hardness and lather. But, I use a refined version that doesn't smell like coconut for soap. Now, I do have some of the more expensive extra virgin coconut oil that does smell like fresh coconuts to use in moisturizers and creams, but I don't think the scent would hold up in the soapmaking process. So... my solution for you would be a fragrance from one of my suppliers that claims to be a true-to-life coconut scent, if you aren't opposed to using a synthetic fragrance.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever made a coconut soap? I asked a local soapmaker from the farmer's market in downtown Orlando, and she said it wouldn't lather very well and it would probably dry the skin, which doesn't sound very good at all. I just keep looking for body products that are coconut scented - not the candied fake coconut or coconut-with-other-fruit blends, but real, fresh, raw coconut. I like your soaps a lot better than what I bought from the farmer's market, so I wanted to ask your opinion. If you were to use fresh coconut ingredients, would it be bad for a soap?

Thank you!

You are quite welcome! I thought they were beautiful
too! I have been looking for a Valentine fragrance for
a few years now, since AVON's "tease" with a 2 campaign
only bubble bath and lotion about 5 years or so, give or take a year! I saved the bottle to "sniff" when the mood strikes! I know that someone out there can imitate that awesome fragrance of Chocolate and Raspberries. DH keeps asking me WHY can't I make soaps like those?? I told him you probably have to have a special mold. A fellow soaper sent him a Black Pepper soap a few years ago for Veterans Day a lot like that soap with Red and Blue Stripes thru it, and the soap was "beige" colored. VERY PRETTY!!
