On the Curing Rack: Creamy Castile

Creamy Castile Soap

Surprise! I found some goat’s milk in my freezer – just enough for one batch of Creamy Castile soap and one batch of Oatmeal, Milk & Honey soap (which will be cut in the next couple of days). Creamy Castile is the purest, mildest soap that I make – just three ingredients: fresh goat’s milk, olive oil, and lye. “Castile” (cas – teel’) is the term used to describe a soap that is made primarily with olive oil. The “Creamy” obviously describes the goat’s milk. Although there is some disagreement as to the origin of castile soap, it has definitely been around since the 1600′s.

This soap is a wonder for anyone with skin allergies – even those who claim they can’t use soap. It’s a fantastic facial soap as well.

Customer testimonial:

“I have the most super-sensitive skin, which is now dry. Almost all soaps and creams break out my skin, even after using them only once. Over my lifetime, I have probably tried over a 100 products that irritate, break out my skin and clog my pores. I have been using Great Cakes Soapworks soaps for several years now. I can’t live without the Creamy Castile Soap. I use it for my facial soap and use the scented bars in the bath.”
-Nancy H., Lenexa, KS

Because of the softer nature of castile soap, it takes longer to cure. You can expect to see this one for sale at Greatcakessoapworks.com on March 26.

Awesome! I’m going to try to cut the Oatmeal, Milk & Honey soap today. Sometimes the goat’s milk makes it a tad soft, so I have to wait a few days to cut, whereas my regular recipe is ready the next day. Once it’s finished curing though, it should be just as hard as the other soaps. There will be pics soon!
