Project Week: Day Two

I didn’t get as far as I hoped today, but at least we have a paint color, and some of it is on the walls. In case you are just joining us, I am working on fixing up my girls rooms this week. And really, Day One was just getting the purple room cleaned so that we could proceed with paint.

Our neighbor emailed me because she saw my blog post yesterday about picking a lime green paint color and offered to show us her baby’s room. It is so adorable!! (Laura Ashley Apple 3 – you can get it at Lowe’s.) She let us borrow the paint can so we could test a patch on the wall.

Then we went to Lowe’s, armed with a piece of fabric from the bedroom, and bought two samples of other greens. Fresh Pear was downright scary in its brightness, so I had them make the color next to it on the card (Grasshopper) so I could have something to compare it to. Well worth the $4 for each sample.

Now, I loved the Apple color from our neighbor. Grasshopper was too light. However, I was completely out-voted by my husband, my two daughters, and a friend who happened to come over to pick up her soap order. They all picked Fresh Pear.

I realize that pictures can hardly do this color justice, but see what you think:

Oh, and my husband also suggested that perhaps it’s time to paint the trim as well. That will add another day to this project!

My friend Leslie offered to come help me paint. I think maybe I’ll call her.

Project Week: Day One

In just a few short weeks, my girls will be having their birthdays. My oldest will be eight on the 21st, and my “baby” will be six on August 4th. For their birthdays, I decided to fix up their rooms for them. Just a few minor things that will make them oh, so happy. However, to start these projects, we had to do some major cleaning. I took some before pictures just to show you what I’m up against:

This afternoon, I tackled the purple room, belonging to the older one. I painted it purple when she was two and didn’t really have any say in the matter. She has been begging to paint it green. I figured it was a phase, but she’s still intent on it. So hopefully tomorrow, we’ll be picking out a nice mellow, lime green – if that’s possible. Greens are such a difficult color to get right, so I’m praying we find the right color the first time. (I could tell you about the “interesting” green houses in our neighborhood, but that would be a very long tangent, so I won’t go there.)

I’m not ready to paint the pink and green room yet. I spent many long hours painting it while I was pregnant with her. She understands. I will, however, be sewing some new curtains that actually match the rest of the room. We have more projects coming up, and I will try to keep you updated as we go.
