I tested a new soap fragrance today: Sweet Pea & Rhubarb. I never would have thought to pair up those scents myself, but it smells fantastic! The plan is to make some really cute Valentines Day soaps with it, but I wasn’t sure my methods were going to translate into the soap I had created in my head. I am SO glad I took the time to make a test batch! The term “bleeding hearts” took on new meaning for me:
The problem was that the cream-colored soap underneath had set up quicker than the red soap. As I drew my bamboo skewer through the dot of red to make the heart shape, it created a ditch in the cream soap, and the red soap bled out into the ditch. Boo hoo. I tried to fix it, but of course then I just created little pink smudges. The good news is, I think I have a solution to the problem! I’ll just have to wait for this soap to set up so I can take it out of the mold and start over tomorrow. Stay tuned!
P.S. Thank you so much for the overwhelming response to the soap grab bags I posted yesterday. They are all gone!

Would it be possible to make solid 3-D hearts of the read (in heart-shape molds) then have the cream soap around the heart…. so the heart appears only after using the soap for a bit?
I had no idea I could be so interested in soap! Soap is a great gift for Valentines Day! My hubby and I don’t do much, since there are so many gift-giving occasions, and since we both have enough “walking around money” to satisfy our frugal desires. Fun or yummy soap seems a perfect way to say “I thought of you” without stressing out over “what to get” and without spending a lot of money.
Ill look forward to more info on your Valentine’s Day Soap. (Some for my dad, too — the rhubarb fan!)
Good morning!

The heart is like a goldfish and it is very lovely.
WOW!!! I am in constant awe of your soapmaking genius:D. Can’t wait to see the cut pics.
@Cindy – Your idea would be possible, but it would be more work! I’m so glad you are enjoying the soapmaking process, and thinking outside the box.
@remi – You’re right – they do look like little goldfish! Red ones!
@Patrice – I wish I could take credit for coming up with the idea, but I didn’t. It sure looked easier in the photos, is all I’m sayin.
